The first thing you need to do is fill in the NOIM – Notice of Intention to Marry.

This notice must be lodged with me (or your celebrant) no less than one month and one day and no more than 18 months before the wedding.
When you lodge the NOIM, you will be required to present the following Identification to prove you are who you are and your marital status:

  • Australian or Overseas Birth Certificate (Or Birth Extract)- If lost you must contact the Dept BDM and get a reprint
  • Overseas passport
  • Driver's license or photo ID.

    If you are divorced:

  • You must provide a Divorce Certificate/ Decree Absolute/Nullis.

    A few days before the wedding (usually done at your rehearsal):

  • You must fill out your statutory declaration (Form 14) declaring that there is no legal impediment to you marrying

    At the Ceremony:

  • You will sign your Stat dec, my marriage register and your marriage certificate
  • Your two witnesses (18+) will sign these also
  • Your celebrant will sign them. Then you're married... Congratulations!
